SHAH ALAM: Bookings for Proton Saga SV, launched by Proton Holdings Bhd in June, has surpassed 12,000 units, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Hisham Othman said last night.

"I'm very happy. This is a very encouraging figure. The product that Proton produced has fulfilled Malaysians' taste," he told reporters at a breaking-of-fast event with Proton employees.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Proton advisor, attended the event.

Hisham said Proton Edar expected the demand for Proton Saga SV to continue to rise as the car provided value for money, with safety features like airbags for front seat passenger even though the price was RM5,000 cheaper than previous Proton Saga models.

On the total number of Proton Saga SV that have been registered, Hisham said the initial target was only 2,000 units a month, but this month alone 5,500 units have been registered.

Asked on the Preve hatchback model to be introduced in the market, Hisham said the model will be launched this year. He declined to elaborate.  – Bernama
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Edar has been appointed as a PosLaju authorised agent, and will provide certain services such as Next Day Delivery for documents and parcels, PosLaju International – Express Mail Services (EMS) at selected outlets.

Initially, four Proton Edar outlets in the Klang Valley will offer selected PosLaju services, followed by nine more outlets in Peninsular Malaysia by July 5 as well as two outlets in East Malaysia by the third week of July.

This marks a significant milestone for Pos Malaysia and Proton who are member companies of DRB-HICOM – and is in line with the group’s aspiration for intra-group synergies.

"We believe that synergistic collaboration within the DRB-HICOM group is a key to unlock various potentials, drive us towards developing services and solutions that will benefit our mutual customers as well as accelerate our transformation plans,” said Pos Malaysia covering group chief executive officer Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh.

“Proton Edar showrooms are located at strategic locations and we operate five and a half days a week, it’ll provide great convenience to customers, said Proton Edar chief executive officer Hisham Othman.

The PosLaju Authorised Agent business model was introduced on December 3, 2012 and provides opportunities for new and existing companies as well as entrepreneurs to generate additional income and grow their business together with PosLaju.

To date, more than 100 PosLaju Authorised Agents has been appointed which enables customers to get access to PosLaju’s services at Ikobana (41 outlets), Mail Boxes Etc (36 outlets), MPH Bookstore (4 outlets) and individual agents (26 outlets).

Meanwhile, Proton has also launched the the “Nama Siapa Hebat” contest, inviting Malaysians around the country to contribute to name its upcoming, all-new compact car.

The contest will end on July 25, 2013.

The grand prize winner will win the Premium version of the new model, while other attractive prizes also include holiday packages, cash prizes and electrical gadgets worth more than RM120,000.

Proton executive chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil said the new model is expected to be introduced in Malaysia in the first half of 2014.

“We are the national automotive car company. It is only right that the Malaysian public share our pride and play a significant part in naming the new Proton car,” said Mohd Khamil Jamil.

“This new compact car is extremely stylish, and is targeted at those from all walks of life who love an active lifestyle,” he added.

All Malaysians from the age of 12 are eligible to participate in the “Nama Siapa Hebat” contest.

For the entry to qualify, all names submitted must be in Bahasa Malaysia containing no more than six letters.

The name may be in alphabets or a combination of alpha numeric, but cannot be all numeric.

The proposed name must also not have any association with the animal kingdom.

All entries must be supported with a rationale for the name.

Participants can submit as many entries as possible, either via mail, or online at namasiapahebat.proton.com.

Forms for the “Nama Siapa Hebat” contest are available at Proton service centres nationwide.
